The Virginia Firearms Transaction Program (VFTP) divides “transactions” into two categories:

  1. Resident
  2. Nonresident transactions.

It is important to remember that in-person pistol (hand guns) purchases/ transfers can only be made in the state of Virginia by resident of the state of Virginia. VFTP outlines what the identification requirements are for VA state residents. “The individual MUST present a valid phot-ID form issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia that denotes the individual’s name, sex and date of birth. In other words if you are not a VA resident do not have handguns transferred to us. as they will be returned forthwith to the sender.

Rifle and shotguns may be purchased by non-resident once the ID requirements are met (see VFTP manual – Non-resident Transaction).
